Work Schedule: 3 shifts of 12 hours, from 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM, Monday through Friday, including night and weekend on-call duties.

AdventHealth Parker operates as a Level II Trauma Center, dedicated to delivering exceptional, community-oriented healthcare. Since our inception in 2004, we have evolved into a regional medical hub, achieving Magnet Recognition in 2017 and Joint Commission Certification for Bariatrics in 2018, making us one of only five hospitals nationwide with this distinction. Our facility includes 170 licensed beds, 23 private rooms in the Emergency Department, and 13 surgical suites.

Your Role:

Surgical technologists play a crucial role within the surgical team, providing essential support in delivering surgical care to patients. Under the guidance of a registered nurse or surgeon, they ensure the safe and effective execution of both invasive and non-invasive surgical procedures. Their responsibilities include maintaining a secure operating room environment, ensuring equipment functionality, and upholding conditions that prioritize patient safety. Surgical technologists possess expertise in aseptic principles and sterile techniques, combining their knowledge of human anatomy and surgical processes to assist physicians in performing therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. They adhere to AdventHealth's Corporate Compliance Plan and all relevant regulations, while actively engaging in outstanding customer service and fostering respectful relationships.

Value Added to the Team:

  • Surgical technologists manage instruments, supplies, and equipment during surgical procedures, demonstrating a thorough understanding of the operations and anticipating the surgeon's needs. They ensure quality patient care throughout the procedure while vigilantly maintaining the sterile field.
  • In preparation for surgery, they gather, verify, and open the necessary supplies and equipment, anticipating additional needs and ensuring all items are functional and readily accessible.
  • They uphold strict aseptic techniques, monitoring all team members and activities to prevent any breaches in sterile practices, including performing surgical hand scrubs, donning gowns and gloves, setting up sterile fields, and draping for procedures, while adhering to CDC isolation guidelines and proper PPE usage.
  • They conduct instrument, sharps, and sponge counts with the circulator as per established protocols.

Qualifications:

Required Expertise and Experience:

  • Graduation from a surgical technology program, LPN or RN program, completion of a military training program that includes surgical technology skills, or equivalent on-the-job training with a minimum of 5 years in an acute care operating room setting.
  • BLS Certification
  • Proficiency in English, including reading, writing, and verbal communication, to effectively fulfill job responsibilities.
  • Fundamental skills in aseptic/sterile techniques and knowledge of surgical instruments.
