Job Overview

Position: Culinary Specialist - Level 05

Salary: $19.41/hour

Work Schedule: Intermittent (0-19 hours/week)

Facility: MWR Crows Nest

Key Responsibilities:

The Culinary Specialist is responsible for preparing and cooking a diverse range of menu items, including:

  • Grilled sandwiches, hamburgers, and quick meals
  • Salads and cold sandwiches
  • Fresh, frozen, or canned vegetables and fruits

Operates various kitchen equipment powered by gas, electricity, steam, or microwave heat sources. The role includes:

  • Grilling or frying meats such as steaks, chops, and poultry
  • Monitoring cooking processes and ensuring timely removal of food items
  • Preparing desserts and beverages as directed

Maintains food safety and quality control by:

  • Ensuring proper food temperature during holding, transport, and serving
  • Rotating food inventories to prevent spoilage
  • Storing food items correctly at the end of shifts

Responsible for cleanliness and organization of the work area, which includes:

  • Cleaning and maintaining kitchen equipment and utensils
  • Following safety procedures to prevent injuries
  • Removing soiled dishes and cleaning tables

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Experience in food preparation and presentation
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Physical capability to lift objects up to 40 pounds and stand for extended periods
  • Must obtain a Food Handler's Certificate

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year of experience in a similar culinary role
