Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers, Colorado's largest and most comprehensive provider of cancer care, is seeking a PRN RN in Thornton. Our team is dedicated to providing the best care possible for each and every one of our patients. As a PRN RN, you will be responsible for administering chemotherapy, hydration, and other medications under the direction and supervision of a physician. You will also be responsible for maintaining knowledge of drug reimbursement procedures, completing all chemotherapy charge forms, and ensuring pre-authorization and appropriate consent forms are obtained prior to administration of therapies. Additionally, you will facilitate dose modification by assessing patient, assessing labs, consulting protocol or treatment plan, calculating dose, and consulting physician regarding dosage modifications, including problems and symptom management. You will also perform venipuncture, access implanted ports, and maintain central lines catheter devices. Furthermore, you will administer all medications using correct medication product, dosage/amount, route, time, and technique. You will also display appropriate technical skills for the administration of chemotherapy and medications, including venipuncture, central line access, and infusion devices. You will program portable infusion pumps for continuous drug delivery and provide instruction to the patient and/or caregiver in the use of the pump at home. You will document nursing assessments, patient teaching, and fluid and medication administration in the patient chart. You will also communicate all pertinent information and any interventions to the physician. Qualifications include a graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education, RN state license, and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is also required. Minimum two years nursing experience is required, with oncology experience preferred. There is a possible exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations, and other conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic environment. Physical Requirements include a full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Standing and walking for extensive periods of time are also required. Occasionally lifting and carrying items weighing up to 40 lbs is also required. Corrected vision and hearing to normal range are also required. All qualified candidates are required to pass a background check and non-federal drug test (which excludes marijuana) post offer of employment and prior to hire. Candidates will be required to show proof of being vaccinated against influenza upon commencing employment.
