Overview

The incumbent in this role operates at an advanced level, executing preventative maintenance, HVAC servicing, and restoration tasks across various traditional trades. This position is essential for ensuring the effective functioning of physical plant operations.

Key Responsibilities

The following responsibilities are fundamental to this position and are not intended to encompass all duties that may be assigned:

Conducts routine and intricate maintenance repairs on both interior and exterior structures, fixtures, and equipment, including HVAC systems and heavy-duty mechanical apparatus. Engages in restoration and renovation projects for facilities, historical structures, and bridges; constructs partitions and shelving based on provided sketches or plans, refurbishes furniture, and optimizes space layout for efficiency. Advises on the referral of tasks that exceed financial or technical capabilities to external contractors. Responsible for the maintenance and repair of compressors, pumps, hydraulic lifts, and treatment facilities, as well as operating and maintaining HVAC systems and complex plumbing installations. Operates and maintains essential life safety systems, including sprinkler installations. May supervise skilled and semi-skilled maintenance personnel in specific tasks or training scenarios. Keeps detailed records of work completed, materials utilized, and time allocated to tasks, while ensuring the procurement of necessary materials and supplies through established processes. May also perform maintenance on highway lighting or drawbridge systems.

Qualifications

Requirements for the Advanced Physical Plant Mechanic Position
Candidates must demonstrate education, training, and/or experience in the following areas:

At least six months of experience in operating and maintaining various equipment and tools used in trades such as plumbing, carpentry, painting, or HVAC. A minimum of six months of experience performing tasks in diverse trades including plumbing, carpentry, painting, or HVAC. Six months of experience in maintaining records. Proficiency in interpreting blueprints, schematics, or technical drawings. Knowledge in estimating costs, timeframes, and materials for projects. A valid Driver's License is required (must not be suspended, revoked, or cancelled).
