Position Summary

The Estimator plays a crucial role in assessing bid specifications and project drawings to guarantee comprehensive understanding for successful project bidding. This position involves estimating and managing production costs by collecting and analyzing necessary information for each project, collaborating closely with Sales and Production Teams to create competitive cost estimates.

  • Engage with Project Consultants to gather essential information for accurate bidding.
  • Promote safety as a priority and adhere to safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with the Estimating and Sales teams to ensure precise project bids.
  • Review proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents to prepare and present estimates.
  • Evaluate proposals and project requirements critically.
  • Utilize historical performance data to inform current bids.
  • Maintain communication with subcontractors and vendors.
  • Embody Sunland's Core Values in all interactions.
  • Identify labor, material, and time requirements for each project.
  • Calculate costs by analyzing labor, material, and time needs.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings to discuss project details.
  • Employ software tools to prepare estimates and documentation.
  • Manage personal estimating queue within Company Software daily.
  • Thoroughly review bid requirements.
  • Document all information, notes, and meetings in Company Software.
  • Provide weekly updates to the Estimating Manager.
  • Act as a representative of the Company, delivering exceptional service to clients and the public.
  • Follow up with subcontractors to confirm receipt of bids.
  • Perform any additional duties as assigned.

Safety Considerations
  • This position is classified as safety-sensitive and is subject to the company's drug and alcohol policy, as well as all OSHA regulations.
  • All employees must utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Act as a safety ambassador by complying with all applicable laws and company safety policies, enforcing safe work practices, and proactively identifying and addressing hazards.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • This role requires work in both construction sites and office environments, necessitating the use of standard office equipment and effective communication.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds, as well as navigate various construction sites safely.
  • Work may be conducted outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
  • Exposure to chemicals, noise, and other potential hazards may occur.
Position Type

This is a full-time position with potential for occasional evening and weekend work as required.

Travel Requirements
  • Willingness to travel to various job sites as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or GED is required; a Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • At least two (2) years of estimating experience.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of general construction experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans and blueprints.
  • Strong mathematical skills are essential.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and strong computer skills are required.
  • Excellent communication and writing abilities are necessary.
  • Fluency in English, including speaking, reading, and writing.
Certifications
  • A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and background check is mandatory.
