Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Inspector 1 to join our team in the Blackfoot area. As a key member of our Agricultural Inspections division, you will play a critical role in safeguarding the public, plants, animals, and the environment through promotion, education, and regulation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate forklifts to stage sample containers for inspection, unload incoming samples from trucks, and move containers to inspection stations.
  • Conduct visual inspections of products to determine their grade and quality, using visual inspection, paring knives, small scales, and size rings.
  • Collect, lift, and carry samples weighing up to 35 pounds, and perform other physical tasks as required.
  • Work in extreme cold and heat, wet and humid environments, and around dirt, fumes, poorly ventilated areas, noise, and odors.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors, and work independently with minimal supervision.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods, work in extreme temperatures, and lift heavy objects.
  • Manual dexterity, including the ability to toss, pull, push, lift, carry, and cut commodities.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, accurately complete time sheets, and write or print neatly and legibly.
  • Must be able to read and write in English.
  • Ability to obtain and retain an Inspector Aide license from USDA within one month of hire, and a USDA FV-200 license within two months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to collect, lift, carry, and push/pull heavy objects weighing up to 80 pounds.
  • Experience with forklift operation and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State grading procedures and standards.
  • Ability to explain grading procedures to others.
