Job Title: General Counsel

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide timely and competent legal advice on a wide range of issues, including employment law, policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Advise senior management and governing board on legal matters pertaining to the University.
  • Supervise the legal work associated with advancement enterprises.
  • Monitor legal issues and trends affecting higher education and make recommendations on matters affecting institutions of higher learning.
  • Identify and evaluate compliance risks associated with the University and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Coordinate and manage litigation support and oversight of regulatory and litigation matters.
  • Interview and select outside counsel, in collaboration with the President, where external expertise is required.
Requirements:
  • Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA accredited law school.
  • Eight years of legal experience with a comprehensive and broad-based understanding of issues relevant to higher education.
  • Standing member of the State Bar of California or membership within one year of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in higher education industry.
  • Membership in NACUA.
Working Environment:

This is a full-time position in an office environment with multiple interruptions. Occasional weekend work and some travel may be required.
