Position Overview

The Lead Financial Systems Consultant acts as the functional authority for the Accounting, Finance, and Procurement departments in the deployment and ongoing management of the District's Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) financial software and related systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expertise and leadership in the selection, maintenance, user training, system upgrades, and essential components of the ERP and other financial systems.
  • Implement and sustain system configurations pertinent to the District's ERP and financial systems.
  • Collaborate effectively to manage, support, and integrate additional District systems with the ERP and financial software.
  • Serve as the liaison between the Finance, Accounting, and Procurement Department and District staff, particularly IT personnel, vendors, and other users of financial systems.
  • Enhance user experience by streamlining processes, analyzing business workflows, and improving operational efficiency.
  • Plan and execute ERP system projects, business process enhancements, and internal controls.
  • Deliver insightful system outputs, reports, and data analyses while identifying and implementing opportunities for process improvements.
  • Train and support users through both on-the-job guidance and formal training sessions to ensure effective utilization of financial systems, reports, and dashboards.
  • Provide analytical support, conduct financial analyses, and review various initiatives for operational efficiencies.
  • Assist in implementing external audit recommendations related to internal control procedures and systems.
  • Coordinate testing of new configurations prior to their deployment in production.
  • Work closely with IT Services, system vendors, and departmental staff during system changes and upgrades.
  • Maintain accurate historical records by managing documentation within the records management system.
  • Perform other related duties as necessary.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Successful candidates will possess:

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and auditing standards.
  • A strong understanding of Cloud ERP business processes, maintenance, tools, and support.
  • Experience in managing complex systems projects.
  • Familiarity with best practices in change management.
  • Research methods, data collection, and statistical analysis skills.
  • Critical thinking abilities and the capacity to connect various aspects within the District.
  • Self-direction and the ability to tackle challenges independently.
  • Attention to detail and strong communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Education and Experience

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, ideally with coursework in information technology.
  • A minimum of five years of accounting or auditing experience, preferably in a governmental context.
  • Two or more years of experience in financial information systems project management and implementation.
  • Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or a related professional designation is preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that equips the candidate with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform the essential functions of the role.
Work Environment

This position requires minimal physical exertion, with daily lifting of up to 10 pounds. Significant finger dexterity is necessary for tasks such as organizing paperwork and managing office materials. The role is primarily office-based, utilizing equipment such as computers, printers, calculators, copiers, and telephones.
