Job SummaryThe Specimen Processing Specialist is a critical role within our Specimen Processing Department, responsible for general support functions. This position requires a medical data entry background and involves verifying patient demographics, physician data, tests requested, and other pertinent information.
Key Responsibilities- Verify Patient Information: Accurately enter patient information into our laboratory information system (LIS), ensuring all necessary data is complete and accurate.
- Identify and Resolve Issues: Identify problems with specimen types, missing information, and engage our Client Services department to resolve them.
- Learn and Understand Client Test Requests: Develop an understanding of various client test requests and learn how all functions in Specimen Processing fit together.
- Education: High School degree or equivalent required.
- Experience: One or more year's previous laboratory and/or data entry experience.
- Skills: Data entry, high attention to detail, and focus on quality are essential. Knowledge of medical terminology and medications is also required.
- Physical Demands: Ability to tolerate extensive periods seated and/or standing, manual dexterity to use common laboratory equipment, and visual acuity to distinguish fine detail.
