Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist

In this pivotal role, you will be tasked with the creation and execution of comprehensive Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) programs and systems that align with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as the strategic objectives of MicroVention-Terumo. Your focus will be on fostering a culture of safety and health within both manufacturing and research environments, addressing key areas such as emergency preparedness, incident management, ergonomics, machine safety, chemical oversight, change management, industrial hygiene, and biosafety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain effective EHS systems and processes that adhere to all relevant regulations and standards.
  • Collaborate with various business units to ensure compliance with safety and environmental practices.
  • Set EHS goals and objectives, supporting the organization in their realization.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on EHS metrics to management.
  • Act as the primary contact for EHS emergencies, maintaining the emergency action plan and coordinating training for the Emergency Response Team.
  • Conduct EHS assessments for new chemicals, product developments, facility modifications, and equipment installations.
  • Facilitate incident investigations and root cause analyses, working with Human Resources and Workers' Compensation for accurate recordkeeping.
  • Oversee EHS functions, including job safety analyses, program reviews, and employee training initiatives.
  • Perform regular compliance inspections and internal audits.
  • Ensure all necessary environmental permits, licenses, and documentation are obtained and maintained.
  • Lead the Safety Committee and evaluate proposed regulations for their impact on operations.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, Industrial Hygiene, Ergonomics, or a related field, or a degree in an unrelated discipline with relevant experience.
  2. A minimum of four years of professional experience in Environmental, Health, and Safety, including at least three years in a manufacturing or plant setting.
  3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong interpersonal abilities.
  4. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.

  1. Ability to collaborate effectively with Senior Leadership, Supervisors, and Production teams.
  2. In-depth knowledge of state and federal EHS regulations, management systems, emergency action protocols, and ergonomics.
  3. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  4. Ability to communicate sensitive issues appropriately.
  5. Adaptability to work in a team-oriented environment.
  6. Proven ability to manage multiple projects and responsibilities efficiently.
