Overview

The Diagnostic Radiology Technologist is responsible for conducting diagnostic imaging procedures utilizing both stationary and mobile radiographic equipment in accordance with established protocols. This role encompasses essential patient care, film processing, equipment maintenance, patient transport, and thorough documentation management.

The Diagnostic Radiology Technologist 1 primarily operates in outpatient settings, pain management, pediatric care, orthopedics, and may also engage in portable and inpatient environments, with occasional involvement in fluoroscopy, O-arm, trauma, operating room, and Dexascan procedures.

In contrast, the Diagnostic Radiology Technologist 2 predominantly works in three or more of the following areas: fluoroscopy, O-arm, trauma, operating room, and Dexascan, while also having the potential to work in outpatient, pain management, pediatric care, orthopedics, portable, and inpatient settings.

This position requires on-site presence only.

Responsibilities

Patient Care
* Collects comprehensive patient histories.

Informs patients and their families about procedures and treatments, including associated risks and preventive measures.

Accurately positions patients for the relevant radiographic procedures.

Executes radiographic procedures and analyses in line with departmental protocols.

Assesses and interprets radiographic results for technical quality, focusing on aspects such as density, contrast, definition, and distortion.

Utilizes acquired methodologies with independent judgment, adhering to established policies and procedures.

Conducts prescribed procedures in compliance with established standards.

Maintains rigorous infection control protocols.

Clarifies standard procedures and addresses patient inquiries.

Prepares, cleans, adjusts, inspects, and maintains radiographic equipment.

Generates high-quality images and presents them alongside pertinent patient information for timely interpretation. Ensures accurate documentation and archiving of imaging data as necessary.

Collaborates effectively with physicians and other healthcare professionals.

Modality Specific
* Conducts radiographic procedures using both stationary and mobile equipment.

Responsible for the proper setup of the X-ray room, equipment manipulation, and optimal patient positioning for procedures.

Ensures accurate image capture of skeletal structures required for diagnostic and treatment purposes.

Processes and develops exposed X-ray films and creates digital copies for review and interpretation.

Quality Assurance
* Adheres to regulatory and organizational standards that impact patient care and safety, along with all hospital and departmental policies.

Conducts and evaluates equipment quality control measures, demonstrating troubleshooting capabilities and notifying relevant personnel to maintain equipment functionality.

Ensures efficient workflow within the department and monitors inventory levels of supplies and materials to prevent service interruptions.

Education and Development
* Engages in fostering a learning environment supported by evidence-based practices and research.

Focuses on personal development, engaging in professional interactions with peers and students.

Collaborates with colleagues and other healthcare providers, participating in ongoing training and educational seminars.

Qualifications

Education
Associate's Degree in Applied Science or a related field - Required

Certification & Licensure
MRTBE, ARRT - Required upon hire or within six months of hire

BLS (American Heart) - Required
