Job Summary

The Birth Sister II provides non-clinical support and assistance to birthing persons and families during the prenatal, labor, and postpartum periods. This role involves facilitating communication between clinical care providers, clients, and families, and providing evidence-based informational support and assistance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate communication between birthing persons, families, and clinical care providers during the perinatal period.
  • Provide prenatal appointments and counsel clients on general pregnancy health, nutrition, exercise, and culturally-sensitive birth preferences.
  • Assess social determinants of health and provide resources and navigation to ensure access to necessary services.
  • Manage the implementation and execution of individualized birth plans.
  • Provide non-clinical physical comfort measures and information on labor progression tools.
  • Provide in-hospital and in-home follow-up with birthing persons and families.
  • Escalate conflicts to pertinent internal departments and teams and external programs.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Doula education from an accredited, certifying doula training program required.
  • Minimum one year of experience in social services, maternal health, health education, patient navigation, or related field required.
  • Some work experience as a labor doula, postpartum doula, childbirth educator, lactation professional, patient advocate, or community health worker preferred.
