Job Overview

As a key member of the Southeast Ventura County YMCA team, the Assistant Site Director plays a vital role in delivering a high-quality child-development program. This position requires a strong leader who can implement program curriculum, mentor teachers and aides, and provide a positive experience for children and parents.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and implement program activities that align with the YMCA's values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
  2. Supervise children, classrooms, and site activities to ensure a safe and engaging environment.
  3. Collaborate with teachers and aides to provide a nurturing and supportive environment for children.
  4. Ensure compliance with all policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.
  5. Supervise site staff in the absence of the site director and provide guidance and support as needed.
  6. Purchase supplies and equipment as directed by the site director.
  7. Identify and mitigate potential hazards and inform senior staff.
  8. Conduct ongoing observations and evaluations of each child to inform program development.
  9. Cultivate positive relationships with parents and engage them as volunteers and advocates for the YMCA.
  10. Use positive reinforcement techniques to address children's behavioral concerns.
  11. Supervise and mentor aides and teachers to ensure a high-quality program.
  12. Maintain program site and equipment to ensure a safe and healthy environment.
  13. Collect and maintain required program records.
  14. Mentor a minimum of 3 staff members to support their growth and development.
  15. Attend staff meetings, trainings, and complete all assigned online trainings.
  16. Participate in family nights and program activities to foster a sense of community.
Qualifications
  1. Meet at least one of the following qualifications:
    • Completion of at least 12 postsecondary semester units of specified early childhood education classes, including courses on child growth and development, child, family, and community, and program/curriculum.
    • Minimum of 18 months of work experience in a licensed Child Care Center or equivalent.
  2. Be at least 18 years of age.
  3. Have knowledge of acceptable child care and day camp practices.
  4. For licensed programs, have knowledge of California childcare licensing regulations.
  5. Ability to build relationships with school staff.
  6. Ability to work productively in teams, task forces, and planning groups.
  7. Ability to run daily functions of the site in the site director's absence.
  8. Demonstrate initiative to plan, lead, and participate in activities.
  9. Complete all required online training before starting work.
  10. Complete mandated reporting course within 30 days of hire.
  11. Familiarity with mandated reporting and steps to be taken.
  12. CPR and First Aid certifications through a nationally recognized organization.
  13. Health and TB clearance.
  14. Up-to-date TDAP, MMR, and Influenza vaccinations.
  15. Criminal records clearance.
Physical Demands
  1. Ability to plan, lead, and participate in a range of activities in various outdoor and indoor settings.
  2. This position may require standing and/or sitting for extended periods, wading in water to supervise children, walking continuously for at least 1/2 mile, and spending a full workday outdoors in any weather condition.
  3. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
