Job Summary

The Director of Finance is a key member of the Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana-Michiana leadership team, responsible for overseeing the financial management and administration of the organization. This includes aligning financial reserves with the mission and vision of the organization, identifying opportunities for cost savings, and ensuring the Council's program and service facilities are in good condition.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial management, accounting, and budgeting, with experience in creating and driving analytic frameworks for planning and managing organizational change. They will be able to lead a team of professionals in finance and accounting, and have excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and approve preparation and finalization of monthly and annual financial reporting materials and metrics.
  • Oversee budgeting, financial forecasting, and cash flow for administration, existing programs, and proposed new sites.
  • Hire and manage accounting and finance support teams.
  • Coordinate all audit activities.
  • Ensure that all Council program and service facilities are safe and operational.
  • Partner with the Program Team to ensure that properties are appropriate to deliver high-quality programs.
  • Provide supervision and guidance for Site Managers and other contracted help.
  • Ensure maintenance, repair, and replacement of properties/equipment as needed to support programming.
  • Create Requests for Proposals and negotiate bids and contracts for property, equipment, and materials as needed and according to budget.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (MA/MBA preferred) in Business, Management, or Finance.
  • At least five to eight years of professional experience, including managing the finance and administration of a high-growth $1 million to $5 million organization (preference given to nonprofit experience).
  • Experience in creating and driving analytic frameworks for planning and managing organizational change in a highly entrepreneurial organization.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial management and accounting, ideally in the nonprofit sector.
  • Experience with project management utilizing tools such as Asana.

Physical/Mental Essential Requirements

  • Walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, moderate lifting and carrying (up to thirty (30) pounds).
  • Full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Ability to sit at a computer workstation for extended periods of time.
  • Occasional need to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to focus on detail and accuracy of work product.
  • Work is performed primarily in a non-smoking office environment.
  • Travel may expose employees to inclement weather conditions.
  • Valid Driver's License and willingness to travel to various work and meeting locations to meet with volunteers and staff.
  • Insurable under the Council's policy for driving and proof of personal vehicle insurance.
  • Dependable transportation is a must.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Occasional high stress may be experienced in dealing with staff and volunteers.
  • A commitment and passion for the Girl Scout Mission and an ability to effectively promote and communicate the Mission and Vision to external and internal stakeholders.
