Key Responsibilities:- Coordinate project design, including one-line diagrams, equipment selection, and construction cost estimates.
- Manage project costs, schedule, and priorities for engineering design and equipment specification functions.
- Review and approve electrical equipment for use in electrical systems.
- Coordinate physical design, including bus design, equipment ratings, and safety/maintenance clearances.
- Inspect and engineer electrical equipment.
- Coordinate designs with outside contractors and vendors and other engineers.
- Apply common engineering principles and standards.
- Interface with Civil/Structural engineers and provide technical support as required.
- Communicate effectively with customers and coworkers.
- Prepare technical proposals, including design and scope of work, management plans, and quality control.
- Estimate engineering and construction costs and schedules.
- Meet with clients and outside personnel, including sales and vendor management.
- Prepare project updates to maintain customer care.
- Support construction of substations and equipment commissioning.
- Review and establish project scope, electrical budget, and design approach.
- Lead coordination of meetings with design team members and clients.
- Communicate with all disciplines to produce construction documents in a timely manner.
- Read and comprehend electrical drawings, specifications, and applicable code requirements.
- Specify electrical components according to NEC and IEEE standards.
- Schedule subcontract and materials purchases for on-time installation.
- Conduct site surveys for field measuring and construction observation.
- Review and edit project submittals and specify action required with vendors and contractors.
- Review and edit engineering reports for issue to customers.
- Prepare project cost estimates.
- Provide direction and supervision to team members.
- Formally evaluate team member performance and provide feedback.
- Resolve performance issues in a timely manner.
- Identify capability gaps and ensure sufficient training opportunities.
- Write and define company processes to improve overall performance.
- Lead engineers, contractors, and suppliers to achieve high customer satisfaction at a profit.
- Occasionally work evenings and weekends to satisfy bid-due-dates.
- 5+ years related experience in electrical estimating or electrical construction field.
- Master electrician, associate's degree, or engineering degree.
- Experience reading and interpreting electrical drawings.
- Attention to detail, excellent organization, and prioritizing skills.
- Sound working knowledge of applicable ANSI/IEEE, NFPA70E, and NEC standards.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and verbal and written communications skills.
- Willing to travel as needed to project site (less than 50%).
- Ability to work in a team environment and coordinate the work of various engineering disciplines and contractors.
- Experience reading and interpreting construction plans and specifications and applicable code requirements.
- Experience with contract documents: contract drawings, specifications, subcontracts, contract addendum, and change orders.
- Proficiency using various software applications (MS Project, MS Office Suite, and Trimble Estimation Software).
- Strong business skills and ability to estimate and produce projects at a profit.
- 7 years of progressive experience in EPC of electrical power systems.
- PMP certified.
- Expert understanding of PM systems and how to use properly.
- Able to write and define company processes to improve overall performance.
- Ability to lead engineers, contractors, and suppliers to achieve high customer satisfaction at a profit.
- Demonstrated experience in physical construction of air insulated electric substations from 35 kV and up.
- Experience in system studies and understanding of power quality.
- Experience in both Electric Utility, Industrial, and consulting engineering environments.
- Experience in EPC project; 480V to 35 kV experience.
- Experience in construction or estimating of physical design of air insulated electric substations from 35 kV and up.
- Experience with high voltage substation EPC.
