Electrical Power Systems Engineer

As a Power Engineer at Davis H. Elliot Company, Inc., you will play a crucial role in designing and developing electrical power systems for our clients. With a strong background in electrical engineering and a passion for problem-solving, you will work closely with our team to provide safe and reliable sources of electric power.
Responsibilities
- Conduct power systems studies, including arc flash, short circuit, and protection coordination
- Design and develop detailed physical designs of electric distribution systems, including one-line diagrams, equipment selection, and project scheduling
- Act as the project engineer for multiple projects and direct the work of drafters
- Perform engineering design and equipment specification functions for distribution projects from 480V to 35 kV
- Specify, review, inspect, and approve electrical equipment for distribution systems
- Review and maintain engineering oversight of physical design, including bus design, equipment ratings, and safety/maintenance clearances
- Perform necessary calculations in support of engineering designs, including short circuit, step & touch potential, battery sizing, and thermal rating of equipment
- Provide protection and control design, including relay settings
- Solve complex problems at customer facilities, including power monitoring, power analysis, troubleshooting, and best installation practices
- Develop knowledge of maintenance testing and interpret test results
- Electrical equipment inspection and engineering assessment
- Evaluate, monitor, direct, and manage outside contractors and vendors
- Interface and collaborate with Civil/Structural engineers and provide technical support as required
- Display strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced team environment
- Prepare equipment specifications, analyze bids, and make recommendations for purchase
- Develop scope of work, conceptual design for projects, and execution plans
- Prepare engineering and construction cost and man-hour estimates and schedules
- Meet and correspond with clients or outside personnel
- Support construction of substations and equipment commissioning
- Provide detailed electrical engineering analysis, including short circuit, equipment evaluation, coordination, arc flash, load flow, harmonic, and power quality analysis
- Minimum: Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university
- Excellent interpersonal skills as well as verbal and written communications skills
- Willing to travel as needed to project site (less than 30%)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in a team environment and coordinate the work of various engineering disciplines and contractors to complete an integrated project
- Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification
- Experience in system studies
- Working knowledge of applicable ANSI/IEEE, NFPA70E, and NEC standards for design
- In-depth comprehension of syncrophasor, stability, and symmetrical components
- Software experience including SKM Powertools, ETAP, Easy Power, PSCAD, Windmill, CYME, Aspen, PSS CAPE, PSS/E or other power system modeling software a plus
