Position Overview:

The Vascular Sonographer is responsible for delivering ultrasound imaging services to patients as per physician directives. This role involves preparing ultrasound examination rooms and ensuring diagnostic equipment is ready for use. The sonographer must perform high-quality imaging, adhering to established safety protocols, and produce diagnostic films. Upholding professional standards and medical ethics is essential while applying developmental knowledge to cater to age-specific patient needs. Confidentiality for both patients and staff is paramount.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnostic Imaging: Execute quality imaging by following clinical protocols and positioning patients effectively to highlight the anatomical areas of interest while ensuring patient comfort. Demonstrate proficiency in ultrasound procedures using the appropriate equipment and evaluate images for technical accuracy, ensuring proper identification is documented. Provide patient education tailored to age-specific requirements and facilitate cooperation by addressing any concerns. Confirm the correct procedure by reviewing physician orders and outpatient prescriptions, and communicate any discrepancies to the physicians. Complete necessary documentation prior to the procedure and assist radiologists as needed.
  • Information Management: Accurately input patient data into the departmental computer system. Manage patient check-ins for the designated radiological procedures, ensuring the correct account is selected during the check-in process and completing patient procedures as directed.
  • Client Relations: Deliver prompt, expert services to patients, physicians, and colleagues in a courteous manner. Keep patients and their companions informed about any delays and the measures being taken to address them. Promote a patient-centered approach in all daily activities, ensuring quality care through preparation, scheduling, and education on various procedures while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to established policies and procedures regarding radiation safety. Conduct all necessary equipment checks before use to ensure the safety of patients and staff. Follow regulatory standards and propose improvements for patient outcomes when necessary. Carry out quality assurance and control activities as required, confirming patient identification to prevent repeat studies due to identification errors. Monitor patients during procedures and report any unusual occurrences or changes in their condition to the appropriate personnel. Assess allergy status for patients receiving medications and respond swiftly to any adverse reactions as per established protocols. Provide first aid assistance as necessary.
  • Professional Conduct: Monitor patients throughout procedures and report any significant changes in their condition. Arrive on time for shifts, take breaks appropriately, and maintain a clean and well-stocked examination area. Identify training needs among staff and contribute to the development of policies and procedures as needed. Communicate any concerns to lead technologists and management effectively. Collaborate with colleagues to ensure efficient execution of radiological procedures and participate in shift rotations as required.

Qualifications:

Experience:

  • At least one (1) year of experience in ultrasound imaging.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

Licenses and Certifications:

Candidates must possess two of the following certifications:

  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate - Breast (required at hire)
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate - Abdomen (required at hire)
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate - Ob-Gyn (required at hire)
  • Registered Vascular Technician Certificate (required at hire from American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers)
  • Basic Life Support Certification

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Strong customer service and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and infection control practices.
