Position Overview:

The Vascular Sonographer is responsible for delivering high-quality ultrasound imaging services to patients, adhering to physician directives. This role involves preparing ultrasound environments and ensuring diagnostic equipment is in optimal condition. The Sonographer will execute tests with precision, following established safety protocols, and will also be tasked with developing imaging results. Upholding medical ethics and exercising sound professional judgment are paramount in this position. Additionally, the Sonographer will apply developmental knowledge to cater to the unique needs of patients across various age groups while maintaining confidentiality for both patients and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnostic Imaging: Conducts ultrasound procedures to capture quality images, positioning patients to highlight the anatomical areas of interest while ensuring their comfort. Demonstrates proficiency in operating ultrasound equipment and evaluates images for technical accuracy, ensuring proper identification is recorded. Provides education to patients about procedures tailored to their age and needs, facilitating cooperation and alleviating anxiety by addressing concerns. Verifies the appropriateness of procedures by reviewing physician orders and outpatient prescriptions, communicating any discrepancies to physicians. Completes necessary documentation prior to procedures and assists Radiologists as required.
  • Information Management: Accurately inputs patient data into the departmental computer system, managing patient check-ins for the appropriate imaging procedures. Ensures the correct account is selected during check-in and completes patient procedures as per system directives.
  • Client Relations: Delivers prompt, expert service to patients, physicians, and colleagues in a friendly manner. Keeps patients and their companions informed of any delays and how they are being managed. Promotes a patient-centered approach throughout daily activities, ensuring quality care through preparation, scheduling, and education on various procedures while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Safety Protocols: Adheres strictly to established safety guidelines and performs all necessary equipment checks prior to use to ensure the safety of patients and staff. Complies with patient and regulatory standards, suggesting improvements for patient outcomes when necessary. Engages in quality assurance and control activities as appropriate, confirming patient identification to prevent errors. Monitors patients during procedures, reporting any unusual occurrences or changes in condition to the relevant personnel. Assesses allergy status for patients receiving medications and demonstrates a knowledgeable response to any adverse reactions as outlined in safety protocols.
  • Professional Conduct: Observes patients during procedures, reporting any changes in condition. Arrives punctually for shifts, adheres to break schedules, and maintains a clean and organized work environment. Identifies training needs among staff and contributes to the development of policies and procedures as appropriate. Collaborates effectively with colleagues to ensure efficient imaging services and participates in shift rotations, including on-call duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Experience:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in ultrasound imaging.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

Licensure and Certification:

Candidates must possess two of the following certifications:

  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate - Breast
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate - Abdomen
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate - Ob-Gyn
  • Registered Vascular Technician Certificate from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers
  • Basic Life Support Certification

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience in a hospital environment.
  • Strong customer service and problem-solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols, including radiation safety and infection control practices.
