Position Overview: The Manager of Grid Operations is responsible for overseeing the integrated transmission system operations to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant grid management while optimizing costs for both customers and the organization. This role involves leading teams that coordinate and communicate regarding planned or unplanned equipment outages, system status updates, and unusual events, including the management of system restoration after significant disturbances. The leadership in Grid Operations is tasked with developing and implementing effective work practices that promote resource efficiency and facilitate close collaboration with other departments to achieve safety, reliability, and customer satisfaction objectives.

The Grid Control Centers monitor real-time operations of the transmission system and work in conjunction with regulatory bodies to uphold system reliability, including voltage monitoring and emergency response. Leaders are expected to foster a culture of safety, reliability, and compliance while empowering employees to prioritize safety in all operations.

Reporting Structure: This position reports to the Director of Transmission Grid Operations within Electric System Operations.

Compensation: The salary range provided reflects the company's good faith estimate for this position, taking into account various factors such as skills, education, experience, and geographic location. The anticipated salary range is as follows:

  • Minimum Base Salary: $151,000.00
  • Mid Base Salary: $204,000.00
  • Maximum Base Salary: $257,000.00

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and schedule work on the transmission system efficiently, ensuring safe operations across multiple control centers.
  • Manage the transmission system's operation, providing emergency response for all transmission-related incidents.
  • Coordinate clearances for the transmission system, collaborating with regulatory bodies for both short-term and long-term planning.
  • Assist in budget development and manage expenditures to align with financial targets.
  • Implement strategies that enhance system reliability and meet emergency response expectations.
  • Address customer concerns effectively to ensure high levels of satisfaction.
  • Maintain regular communication and partnerships with construction teams, distribution centers, engineering, and planning departments.
  • Build relationships with industry stakeholders, including regulatory agencies and other utilities.
  • Ensure all technical training and certifications are completed and documented, confirming employee competency.
  • Supervise a team of supervisors and manage a workforce of dispatchers, operators, and clerical staff.
  • Drive recruitment, training, performance management, and recognition initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards for operating the Bulk Electric System.
  • Maintain readiness for audits to ensure compliance with all reliability standards.
  • Collaborate closely with regulatory bodies to ensure adherence to reliability standards.
  • Contribute to the overall emergency response plan to maintain operational reliability.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 8+ years of experience in electric operations, including 5+ years in a supervisory role.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • NERC Reliability Coordination Certification
  • Completion of System Operator Training
  • Experience with union-represented employees
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication abilities
  • Knowledge of industry best practices and safety protocols
