Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Saddle Stitching Machine Operator to become an integral part of the Mittera Group. In this role, you will be responsible for the operation of saddle stitcher machinery, ensuring that our production goals for quality and efficiency are consistently met. This position also involves leadership responsibilities, guiding the finishing team to achieve optimal performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate saddle stitcher machines safely and efficiently to produce high-quality products.
  • Interpret job tickets, layout sheets, and artwork specifications prior to commencing work.
  • Prepare and adjust stackers, tiers, mail heads, and other machine components for operation.
  • Manage all functions of the saddle stitcher, including pockets, gatherers, stitcher heads, and trimmers.
  • Assist in demographic and inkjet setups as required.
  • Provide support to fellow operators during machine start-ups and operational downtimes.
  • Guide material handlers during continuous operations and assist in maintaining workflow during clean-up.
  • Promote and uphold safety standards while identifying opportunities for operational improvements.
  • Engage in the training and development of finishing personnel, collaborating with supervisors to enhance procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding any operational issues to prioritize resolutions.
  • Continuously seek to learn and implement improved production processes.
  • Perform routine maintenance on assigned equipment and maintain a log of any issues.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and EPA regulations, as well as company safety policies.
  • Foster teamwork and collaboration across shifts.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • 1 to 3+ years of experience in a bindery environment.
  • Experience with Mueller and Martini, Heidelberg, or Osako saddle stitchers is preferred.
  • Familiarity with other bindery equipment such as binders, cutters, and folders is advantageous.
  • Ability to meet quality standards and productivity goals.
  • Proficient in reading and understanding job specifications and layouts.
  • Strong communication skills across all organizational levels.
  • Basic math skills for practical problem-solving.
  • Ability to interpret various forms of instructions.
  • Capacity to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Basic computer proficiency is necessary.
  • Self-motivated and committed to quality and safety in the workplace.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 lbs.
  • Fine motor skills and manual dexterity are essential.
  • Near visual acuity for detailed work.
  • Capability to navigate the facility and operate equipment safely.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism in high-pressure situations.
