POSITION OVERVIEW

BHE GT&S is seeking a skilled Senior Electrical Relay Specialist to join our team. This role is pivotal in ensuring the operational integrity of our relay systems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in electrical systems within plant or substation environments, particularly in the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of protective relay systems. Key responsibilities include:
  • Act as a journeyman, fully qualified to execute all Relay Technician duties, capable of performing comprehensive tests and adjustments, and adept at diagnosing and resolving complex relay and control system issues.
  • Utilize multimeters, various relay types (GE/SEL/Beckwith), relay testing apparatus, and relay software proficiently.
  • Oversee the installation, maintenance, testing, adjustment, troubleshooting, and repair of relay systems.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of solid-state and microprocessor-based protective relays, as well as KWH/KW meters, recording instruments, and controls for all substation equipment.
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering to manage relay settings, access controls, and modifications.
  • Conduct testing on substation equipment, including power factor assessments, transformer turn ratio evaluations, and megger testing.
  • Operate substation apparatus, including executing switching and grounding procedures.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and company standards consistently.
  • May be required to work in confined spaces and elevated locations, utilizing bucket and boom trucks as necessary.
  • Work independently or collaboratively, with the potential for extended hours during emergency situations, while being responsible for tools, testing equipment, and vehicles.


QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma, GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Completion of an electrical apprenticeship or a similar program is required.
  • A minimum of 6 years of experience in the meter and relay field.
  • Successful completion of a pre-qualifying skills assessment is mandatory.
  • Possess a valid driving record.

Applicants must obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card in good standing.
