Advanced Distribution Management Systems Engineer

Xcel Energy is seeking a highly skilled Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS) Engineer to join our team. As an ADMS Engineer, you will play a critical role in supporting the execution and management of the Fault Location Isolation Service Restoration (FLISR) technology in our advanced distribution management systems.
Key Responsibilities- Provide technical expertise and leadership in supporting the execution and management of the FLISR technology in ADMS.
- Apply extensive technical expertise in supporting the strategy of FLISR, including development of the approach for intelligent field device placement and protection studies.
- Represent the organization as the prime technical contact on contracts and projects, interacting with senior external personnel on significant technical matters.
- Support the development of technical documentation, including designs, testing, calculations, reports, and standards.
- Work under the general direction of a higher-level engineer or supervisor for routine engineering projects.
- Provide ongoing technical support for project activities within areas such as Operations, Maintenance, testing/diagnostics, and Regulatory.
- May lead small-medium, non-critical projects, and coordinate/lead critical projects or portions of projects, including phases such as research, design, equipment selection, procurement support, installation, and commissioning.
- Support bid/evaluation processes, including preparation of bid documents, completion of technical evaluations for proposals, and provide recommendations for selection.
- Partners and communicates with areas such as Supply Chain and Legal following appropriate processes.
- Frequently exchanges information in all formats, on matters having a wide range of importance and complexity, both inter-organizationally and with outside customers.
- May assign tasks and coordinate work of interns, drafters, technicians, craft personnel, and/or others.
- Provides guidance and mentoring to less experienced engineers.
- Responsible for continuous self-development of technical skills and competencies.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited curriculum (or recognized equivalency).
- 2+ years relevant engineering experience for Staff Level, 5+ years for Senior Level, and 9+ years for Principal Level.
- EIT/FE (Engineer in Training/Fundamentals of Engineering) strongly preferred for Staff and Senior Levels, and required for Principal Level.
- Ability to demonstrate the unique technical skills and core competencies for this engineering level established and documented by the organization.
- Distribution operation experience with ADMS applications, Field Area Network (FAN), and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI).
- Understanding of electric distribution grid automation practices, protection coordination, and SCADA implementation.
- General project management skills to aid in effectively driving and organizing the engineering side of the FLISR project.
- Understanding of electric distribution construction practices and ability to effectively communicate with field crews to aid in successful construction projects.
- General understanding of a SCADA system with wireless communications connected to a variety of end-devices.
- Good inter-personal and communications skills with the ability to be a bridge across several electric distribution groups to create an effective plan for the FLISR deployment.
