Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Tax Examining Technician to join our team at the U.S. Department of the Treasury. As a Tax Examining Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of tax returns and investigations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct detailed examinations of tax returns and investigations to identify discrepancies and inconsistencies.
  • Analyze taxpayer records, third-party records, and financial data to identify trends and patterns.
  • Communicate with taxpayers and internal stakeholders to gather information and resolve issues.
  • Prepare and assemble work papers, schedules, and exhibits to support examination findings.
  • Reconcile subsidiary accounts with general ledger control accounts for receivables, payables, work-in-progress, inventory, and property accounts.
Requirements
  • One year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service.
  • Experience using automated systems to research taxpayers and provide written reports of findings.
  • Experience recognizing indications of tax fraud and abuse.
  • Experience communicating with customers orally or in writing to document and summarize information obtained from third parties.
  • Experience using spreadsheets to assist in interpreting data and preparing reports.
