Position Overview:
This role involves providing technical support to the Professional Engineer and Senior Professional Engineer within the Signal and Street Light Design Section, focusing on the design and construction aspects of traffic signals and street lighting systems.

Key Responsibilities:
The primary duties include:

  1. Assisting in the design, review, and construction of traffic signal and street light projects.
  2. Conducting inspections and coordinating with various stakeholders, including consultants, utility companies, and contractors.
  3. Maintaining comprehensive project documentation and managing databases or spreadsheets pertinent to the signal section.
  4. Evaluating and recommending updates to signal design standards in line with current practices and state regulations.
  5. Reviewing construction plans, permit applications, and other related documents for compliance with local regulations.
  6. Performing site visits to gather data, including sketches, field measurements, and photographs.
  7. Preparing Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) plans for new and existing signal and lighting projects.

Qualifications:
Candidates should possess:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent certification, complemented by a vocational training certificate in a related field, or
  • Two years of college coursework in Drafting, Civil Engineering, Data Processing, Computer Science, or Business Administration, along with a minimum of two years of relevant experience in traffic-related work.

Equivalencies:
Consideration will also be given to:

  • Graduates with a high school diploma and four years of related experience.
  • Individuals with an unrelated Associate's or Bachelor's Degree and one year of relevant experience.
  • Graduates with an Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Electrical, or Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a closely related field.

Preferred Experience:
Familiarity with Palm Beach County and/or State of Florida traffic standards and specifications, as well as experience working with contractors, consultants, and utility agencies, is highly desirable.
