POSITION SUMMARY

The Writing Support Specialist is tasked with delivering individualized or group guidance in a nurturing atmosphere to students across various disciplines, aiming to engage and empower them to enhance their academic and professional writing skills.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Providing personalized or group consultations in a supportive setting to students from diverse fields.
  • Facilitating one-on-one instructional sessions, which are central to the role, while no additional teaching responsibilities are required beyond those associated with the Writing Center.
  • Executing other assigned tasks as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Master's Degree from an accredited institution (preferably in English).
Proven experience in writing consultation within a tutorial or educational context.
Experience engaging with community college students.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Possess a solid understanding of writing principles, practices, and procedures, with the capability to apply them in various contexts.
  • Ability to effectively convey concepts to others.
  • Skilled in communicating study strategies to promote academic achievement.
  • Comfortable working with individuals from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Exhibit patience and a positive demeanor in fostering a supportive learning environment.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational and time-management capabilities.
  • Possess excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Additionally, the role may involve travel to attend meetings and conferences away from the primary worksite.
