The Academic Commons, situated at the forefront of Gelman Library, is dedicated to supporting the academic journey of students, faculty, staff, and alumni through a variety of tailored services and programs.

The Manager of Academic Commons will take charge of overseeing the review and group tutoring sessions facilitated by course-based undergraduate learning assistants (ULAs). This role requires proactive collaboration with faculty and academic department leaders to manage the recruitment, hiring, and supervision of ULAs. In partnership with the Academic Commons team and in consultation with academic departments, the Manager will design and implement training programs for ULAs, as well as conduct evaluations of tutoring sessions to maintain high standards of quality. The position will also focus on establishing new partnerships across the campus and will act as the primary contact for outreach to faculty and departments interested in utilizing Academic Commons for review and tutoring sessions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with faculty and department leaders to recruit, hire, and onboard course-based learning assistants.
  • Design, plan, and facilitate training sessions aimed at the ongoing professional development of course-based learning assistants.
  • Manage the scheduling system for review and drop-in tutoring sessions, serving as the primary contact for coordination.
  • Monitor student participation in review and tutoring sessions, providing accurate attendance records.
  • Deliver exceptional customer support to patrons and integrate customer service principles into training initiatives.
  • Act as a resource for other Academic Commons staff and programs, providing assistance as necessary.
  • Address complex issues that may require research or escalation to the Director of Academic Commons.
  • Assist the Director in managing the budgetary aspects of the ULA program within Academic Commons.
  • Contribute to the development of Academic Skills for Success modules and other resources that promote student success.
  • Represent the Director in their absence.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, ensuring flexibility in role responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will possess a high school diploma/GED along with 4 years of relevant professional experience, or a Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field. The degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in academic support programming within an educational environment.
  • Familiarity with learning assistance association training programs and certifications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in Excel for data analysis and a willingness to learn additional analytical tools.
  • Capability to utilize presentation and graphic design software.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated success in managing or coordinating projects, programs, or teams.

Compensation:

The salary range for this position is $53,000 to $78,108.53.

Work Environment:
