Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Engineering Project Manager is responsible for delivering a full spectrum of engineering services that encompass all stages of the construction process, from the initial design phase to the final commissioning of systems. This role is pivotal within the Engineering team and reports directly to a Senior Project Manager. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Engineering Project Manager will be expected to collaborate effectively with all members of the design team, mentor junior designers, take ownership of designs under their supervision, and maintain clear communication with clients, contractors, and internal staff. They will be responsible for managing their time across various projects while aligning with the Senior Project Manager's expectations. The ideal candidate should be self-motivated, capable of working independently, and adept at collaborating with others to set priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to evolving project demands.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

  • Collaborating with a Senior Project Manager to prepare and present detailed engineering and construction documentation, providing support throughout the construction phase for diverse project types including residential, commercial, industrial, institutional, and healthcare.
  • Overseeing project designers and engineers to ensure adherence to project schedules and budgets.
  • Designing and drafting mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems, including but not limited to forced air and hydronic systems, sanitary drainage, domestic water, fuel gas piping, receptacle layouts, and lighting systems.
  • Ensuring that MEP systems are well-coordinated with architectural designs and other project consultants.
  • Producing and reviewing comprehensive, code-compliant project contract documents, including drawings and specifications for permitting, bidding, and construction.
  • Conducting and reviewing design analyses, including calculations, modeling, life-cycle cost assessments, and energy code compliance verification.
  • Managing construction administration tasks such as field inspections, report generation, submittal reviews, responding to RFIs, project closeouts, as-built documentation, and issuing design change directives.
  • Engaging closely with owners, architects, contractors, and subcontractors to ensure timely and budget-compliant project completion.
  • Assisting the Senior Project Manager in proposal development.
  • Training and reviewing the work of direct reports.
  • Drafting and editing project specifications (CSI divisions 22, 23, 26, 27, and 28).

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in mechanical, electrical, or plumbing design.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD or Revit (preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
  • Familiarity with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Experience in interpreting and applying relevant building codes and industry standards (International Building Codes, IAPMO codes and standards, NFPA, ASHRAE standards, etc.).
  • Preferred: Professional engineering license.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to communicate with others, both in person and via telephone; sit and stand; use hands to operate tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee may occasionally lift and move objects up to 10 pounds and may need to lift and move heavier objects on rare occasions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • This role typically operates in an office environment, with occasional travel to various project sites as needed.
  • This is an in-person position that may involve collaboration on projects across different locations.
  • This position may require occasional evening and weekend work.
