Position Overview

The Laboratory R&D Geoscientist will collaborate with the Laboratory R&D Lead to expand the rock mechanics experimental program at Eden GeoPower. This role requires expertise in advanced geotechnical testing techniques and protocols, experience with experimental design and apparatus development, and a curiosity-driven mindset.

You will work with a diverse team of engineers and scientists, conduct novel geomechanical tests, support ongoing research programs, and contribute to the company's intellectual property.

Responsibilities
  • Develop new experimental apparatuses and testing protocols
  • Conduct geomechanics experiments, including core flooding investigations, reactive transport, and proppant and rock strength/fracturing tests using High-Pressure High-Temperature (HPHT) Triaxial cells
  • Ensure laboratory equipment is working, calibrated, and fit for purpose
  • Develop the Lab Safety Protocol and other Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) duties
  • Conduct fundamental and advanced research to support field investigations and test new technologies before deployment
  • Train new technicians in the R&D laboratory
  • Prepare and present project updates, technical presentations, and reports for clients
  • Prepare governmental reports, funding proposals, research papers, presentations, and other documents
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Civil, Geotechnical, Geological, or Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • Minimum 2 years of laboratory experience, including research work completed during MS/PhD degree
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to make technically sound recommendations with incomplete information
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams
  • Eligibility to work in the US without immediate sponsorship (F1 OPT, J1 AT are acceptable)
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD in Civil, Geotechnical, Geological, or Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • 5+ years of laboratory experience, including research work completed during MS/PhD degree
  • Experience with HPHT triaxial cells conducting geo-mechanical tests, and/or reactive transport, core flooding, or permeability investigations
  • Microfluidics and geochemical skills are a bonus
  • Familiarity with equipment design, fabrication, and troubleshooting, with expertise in CAD/CAM highly desirable
  • Experience with data acquisition and control systems (hardware and software), with mechatronics a plus
  • Good/Advanced programming skills in Matlab/Python, with LabView and C++ a bonus
