The Behavioral Support Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering educational and behavioral assistance to individuals with special needs. This position involves collaboration with educational professionals and behavioral experts to achieve targeted learning and behavioral outcomes.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Adheres to directives from the BCBA, educators, and program supervisors.
  • Utilizes behavior management strategies encompassing prevention, intervention, and consequence techniques.
  • Provides support during crisis situations.
  • Implements and reviews behavior intervention strategies.
  • Assists in executing tasks related to behavioral and ABA objectives outlined in an IEP under the guidance of an instructor.
  • Facilitates academic instruction as directed by teaching staff.
  • Supports the development plans of Speech-Language Pathology (SLP), Occupational Therapy (OT), and Physical Therapy (PT).
  • Documents sessions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Accurately collects and manages behavioral and academic data.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality standards.
  • Assists students in cultivating independent daily living skills through self-care routines, including toileting, dressing, and hygiene.
  • Provides support to students in various environments such as classrooms, playgrounds, cafeterias, gyms, sensory rooms, and libraries.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Preferred: Two (2) years of experience working with children.
  • Must comply with all relevant professional standards.
  • Participation in Amergis' Competency program is required when applicable.
  • Current CPR certification, if applicable.
  • TB questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray, if applicable.
  • Current health certificate as per contract or state regulations.
  • Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to the job site.
  • Understanding of patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations.
  • Strong communication skills are essential, with proficiency in the English language required.
  • Computer literacy is necessary.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
