Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Recreation Center Supervisor to join our team at DeKalb County. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising and directing assigned staff, developing and overseeing employee work schedules, and ensuring the maintenance of the recreation center.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and direct assigned staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality recreation programs and services.
  • Develop and oversee employee work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and control.
  • Compile and review timesheets, approve/process employee concerns and problems, and counsel or discipline as appropriate.
  • Assist with or complete employee performance appraisals, direct work, and act as a liaison between employees and management.
  • Organize, prioritize, and assign work, prioritize and schedule work activities to meet objectives, and ensure subordinates have the proper resources needed to complete assigned work.
  • Monitor the status of work in progress, inspect completed work, and consult with assigned staff to assist with complex/problem situations and provide technical expertise.
  • Provide progress and activity reports to management and assist with the revision of procedure manuals as appropriate.
  • Coordinate, facilitate, and implement recreation and fitness programs and activities that meet the ever-changing needs and physical, social, and emotional interests of the community.
  • Develop and distribute schedules for various programs, classes, and activities, lead activities, teach classes, or secure individuals to lead/teach classes, and provide planning and setup support for activities.
  • Coordinate facility use, maintain a master calendar, schedule facility rentals, prepare for scheduled events, set up meeting rooms and sports courts, decorate for special events, maintain related documentation, and open and close the facility.
  • Perform routine budgeting and bookkeeping functions for the center, assist in developing and implementing the recreation center budget, monitor expenditures to ensure compliance with the approved budget, prepare daily bank deposits, gather funds, verify counts, prepare deposit statements, deposit funds, and maintain related documentation.
  • Maintain inventory of equipment and supplies, purchase supplies according to established budgetary parameters, repair equipment, perform routine maintenance and cleaning tasks as required, ensure proper maintenance and storage of all equipment and supplies, and maintain inventory records.
  • Ensure the maintenance of the recreation center, conduct regular inspections of facilities, schedule required maintenance and repairs for the facility, and supervise the cleanliness of the building.
  • Perform general customer service and administrative duties as required, receive and respond to inquiries, concerns, and complaints of citizens regarding recreation programs, policies, and/or personnel, process participant registrations, assist customers, answer the telephone and greet visitors, prepare reports and correspondence, maintain documentation, and enter computer data, etc.
  • Ensure center compliance with all applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures, enforce and ensure adherence to established safety procedures, monitor the work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure the safety of employees and other individuals, and initiate necessary actions to correct deviations or violations.
Requirements
  • Associate's Degree in Parks & Recreation or a related field required.
  • Three years of experience in recreation programming or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.
