Description:
The Emergency Department Technician is responsible for collaborating with the Emergency Department Registered Nurse and healthcare providers to deliver comprehensive patient care. This role encompasses both direct and indirect patient support, as well as executing additional responsibilities as directed by the Registered Nurse or healthcare provider.
Key Responsibilities:- Connect and monitor patients using vital signs equipment.
- Respond promptly to patient call lights and address their needs in coordination with nursing staff.
- Assist patients with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, and eating under the guidance of nursing personnel.
- Conduct glucometer tests following successful completion of competency training.
- Document and monitor patients' fluid intake and urinary output, including those with catheters.
- Facilitate patient transfers, specimen collection, and assist with various medical procedures as required.
- Perform visual acuity assessments.
- Operate and apply LUCAS devices as necessary.
- Change and apply wound dressings.
- Assist with wound preparation and irrigation.
- Administer oxygen therapy.
- Support splinting procedures.
- Conduct one-on-one observation and documentation for mental health patients.
- Provide airway ventilation and CPR in accordance with BLS protocols.
- Coordinate helipad logistics.
- Schedule follow-up appointments as instructed.
- Remove IV catheters.
- Perform EKGs and promptly deliver results to the relevant healthcare provider.
- Assist in cleaning and restocking patient rooms.
- Help organize and manage supplies and deliveries.
- Maintain cleanliness in nursing stations during shift changes.
- Participate in monthly departmental duties, including equipment checks and deep cleaning.
- Ensure proper inventory of medical supplies and linens.
- Perform office tasks such as organizing, filing, and data entry.
- Answer and direct phone calls to the appropriate personnel.
- Manage fax communications.
- Assist patients and families with inquiries as needed.
- Coordinate patient transport logistics, including ambulance services.
- Handle document copying and supply ordering.
- Support the use of interpreter services as required.
- Maintain open communication with healthcare providers regarding patient care plans.
- Assist in various departments as needed to meet patient care requirements.
- Actively seek opportunities to support colleagues and enhance patient care.
- Provide courteous and respectful treatment to patients and all stakeholders.
- Foster a welcoming environment for all individuals interacting with the department.
- Maintain a record of positive feedback from patients, families, and staff.
- Effectively manage interpersonal relationships with team members.
- Address conflicts and negative attitudes in a constructive manner.
- Adhere to patient rights and confidentiality standards.
- Follow established behavioral standards and participate in departmental meetings and training sessions.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic is preferred.
- Preferred experience includes at least one year in ambulance services, hospitals, or emergency departments within the last three years.
- Current BLS certification.
This position involves a commitment to patient care and teamwork within the Emergency Department.
