Clinical Nutrition Specialist - Adolescent Medicine and Nephrology
Overview:
The Clinical Nutrition Specialist is responsible for ensuring the provision of comprehensive nutritional care on a daily basis. This role involves delivering Medical Nutrition Therapy tailored to the needs of assigned patients/clients. Key responsibilities include assessing nutritional status and implementing appropriate dietary interventions, counseling, and utilizing specialized nutritional supplements in accordance with established standards and UBMD Pediatrics policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute individualized nutrition care plans based on current medical nutrition therapy standards. Ensure timely documentation of care plans in the medical records.
- Monitor the execution of nutrition care plans, assess their effectiveness through follow-up, and modify plans as necessary to meet patient needs.
- Maintain accurate documentation of care provided to ensure continuity and effective communication with other healthcare professionals.
- Provide guidance and education to patients and their families regarding sound nutritional practices, either through individual consultations or group sessions.
- Facilitate training and educational programs for staff, students, and other personnel, offering in-service education as needed.
- Utilize relevant computer systems and software to gather and record patient information, communicate with colleagues, and research current nutritional practices. Generate reports as required.
- Adhere to all departmental policies, guidelines, and hospital protocols. Maintain appropriate documentation, participate in continuing education, and ensure a safe and organized work environment. Assist in training or orientation as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Nutrition or Dietetics.
Licensure:
- Must hold a valid license as a Registered Dietitian.
Experience:
- A minimum of two years of clinical experience in nutrition and dietetics is required, with a preference for experience in pediatrics and research.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Proficient understanding of nutritional care principles, clinical dietetics, and nutrition education.
- Commitment to maintaining patient safety and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with individuals from diverse educational and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Ability to interpret and implement dietary recommendations.
- Knowledge of childhood obesity, eating disorders, adult weight management, and weight loss surgery.
Work Environment:
The position is based in medical examination and treatment rooms as well as medical offices, with controlled environmental conditions.
