Public Works Coordinator

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Public Works Specialist to join our team at the Highlands County Board of County Commissioners. As a Public Works Specialist, you will provide administrative support to the Engineering and Traffic Operations departments, including receiving and directing public inquiries, performing routine clerical functions, and interacting with the public regarding various permits and services.
Key Responsibilities- Receive and direct all public inquiries, including walk-ins and phone calls, and provide information and assistance as needed.
- Perform routine clerical functions, including typing, word-processing, filing, and operation of office equipment.
- Receive and route all incoming and outgoing mail and packages.
- Ensure all necessary office supplies are stocked and readily available.
- Interact with the public regarding various permits and services, including Driveway Permits, Right of Way Permits, and Utility Permits.
- Prepare daily deposits and maintain various tracking reports.
- Responsible for receiving paperwork for Vacation of Easements, Vacation of Right of Ways, and Vacation of Plats.
- Verify addresses for public and private agencies, government agencies, and the general public.
- Maintain a professional and safe work area, adhering to established safety policies and the image desired for the organization.
- Follow consistently the Board policies and procedures.
- Respond productively to change and perform all other related tasks as directed.
- Three (3) years of clerical experience, preferably in an automated and computer-interactive environment.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver License.
- Must become a Notary Public within six (6) months of hire date.
The person in this position must be able to remain in a stationary position for 50% of the time. Must be able to frequently position self to reach files and other office items located on low shelves or the floor. Must be able to inspect and assess daily email and postal mail correspondence. Frequently communicates with the public, vendors, co-workers, managers, directors, administration, and the Board of County Commissioners. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Frequently operates various types of office equipment to include, but not limited to a computer and copy machine. Occasionally ascends/descends stairs. Rarely moves materials and office equipment weighing up to 25 lbs. Constantly works in an indoor environment. Rarely works in inclement outdoor weather conditions. Rarely operates motor vehicle for up to four (4) hours continuously or intermittently.
