- Foster an atmosphere that makes customers feel valued and appreciated by addressing inquiries about products available in the department and throughout the store.
- Acquire and maintain in-depth knowledge of products offered in the department to effectively respond to questions and provide recommendations.
- Provide product samples to assist customers in discovering new items or products they are interested in; prepare bakery items, including custom wedding cakes, using appropriate bakery tools.
- Suggest bakery products to customers to ensure they receive the items they desire.
- Inspect product quality to guarantee freshness; monitor sell-by dates and take necessary actions; utilize all bakery equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, and ovens in accordance with company protocols.
- Decorate cakes, pastries, cupcakes, cookies, and other baked goods.
- Label, stock, sign, and manage inventory of department merchandise.
- Report any discrepancies in product ordering or shipping to the department manager.
- Familiarize yourself with the store layout to assist customers in locating products; stay informed about current, upcoming, seasonal, and special promotions.
- Maintain awareness of inventory and stocking conditions, noting any discrepancies.
- Comply with all local, state, and federal health and civil code regulations.
- Ensure adherence to all current merchandising, customer service, labor control, expense and supply management, loss prevention, maintenance, safety, food safety, and customer engagement policies.
- Reinforce safety initiatives by following safety protocols and identifying unsafe conditions, reporting them to store management.
- Conduct preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying the appropriate department or store manager of any necessary repairs.
- Report all safety risks, issues, and illegal activities, including theft or fraud; inform management of any customer or employee accidents.
- Must be capable of performing the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Experience in retail.
- Experience in bakery or cake decorating.
- Ability to manage stressful situations effectively.
- Basic math skills.
- Strong communication abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in a second language: speaking, reading, and/or writing.
