Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Public Works Inspector to join our team at the City of Las Cruces, NM. As a key member of our Public Works Department, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with City codes, utility construction standards, and all applicable local, state, and federal codes and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect multiple projects during construction and upon completion to ensure compliance with City codes and regulations.
  • Review plans to determine and order applicable corrections, substitutions, or additions where specifications have not been met.
  • Provide interpretation and analysis of construction practices, techniques, and materials used in the maintenance of roadway and drainage projects.
  • Coordinate, inspect, and monitor utility installations to verify and approve or deny installations based on contract compliance.
  • Quantify installations to determine reimbursement and maintain records to assist in timely and accurate processing of payments.
  • Serve as a liaison with contractors and City departments to develop solutions on construction problems as they arise.
Requirements
  • Equivalent to an Associate Degree in Engineering Technology or related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience performing functions related to civil engineering.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Roadway - NICET II Certification or TTCP Certification.
  • Ability to obtain Department of Transportation (DOT) Operator Qualification (OQ) certification within one (1) year of hire.
