Exceptional Education Coordinator

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Exceptional Education Coordinator to join our team at Alabaster City Schools. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating programs and services for students with exceptional needs, developing and implementing short and long-range plans, and leading in-service training programs for personnel.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate programs and services for students with exceptional needs, including Section 504.
- Develop and implement short and long-range plans required by exceptional education legislation.
- Lead in-service training programs for personnel in exceptional education.
- Coordinate initial evaluation and periodic re-evaluation of students for assignment and retention in exceptional education programs.
- Recommend assignments of exceptional education teacher units to ensure a continuous progress curriculum for each exceptional child.
- Develop and administer budgets for exceptional education programs.
- Prepare and submit reports to the State Department of Education and the Board of Education.
- Develop proposals for and supervise the operation of special programs in exceptional education.
- Oversee the establishment and implementation of the placement committee for exceptional education.
- Recommend policies and procedures essential to the operations of exceptional education programs.
- Cooperate with other school systems and institutions on programs operated for mutual benefit.
- Cooperate with public and private agencies, organizations, and professional personnel in securing and providing services for exceptional children.
- Work with staff to select and place qualified teacher personnel.
- Arrange transportation for children assigned to exceptional programs and/or classes.
- Coordinate testing and evaluation of students for placement or removal from exceptional education classes.
- Coordinate with all divisions/departments of the Alabaster City Board of Education to ensure the system is providing the best possible educational, educational support, and learning environments.
- A Master's degree plus sixth year certification (AA).
- Valid certification in the area of school administration and/or supervision.
- Academic training in areas of exceptional education.
- A minimum of three (3) years' experience in public education, part of which should be related to teaching, supervising, and/or administration in the field of exceptional education.
This is a 12-month/240-day position. Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Administrative Personnel. Salary range is appropriate placement on current salary schedule.
