Job Summary

This position plays a crucial role in providing efficient, effective, and economical quality laboratory services. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing clinical laboratory examinations, specimen processing, proficiency testing, quality control, professional consultation, instrument maintenance and validation, testing validation, testing management, and actively participating in quality assurance activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of clinical laboratory examinations, including but not limited to, hematology, chemistry, microbiology, and immunohematology.
  • Process and analyze laboratory specimens, ensuring accurate and timely results.
  • Participate in proficiency testing and quality control activities to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Provide professional consultation to healthcare providers and staff on laboratory-related matters.
  • Maintain and validate laboratory instruments and equipment, ensuring optimal performance and accuracy.
  • Manage and coordinate testing activities, including but not limited to, specimen collection, processing, and reporting.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities, including but not limited to, quality control, quality improvement, and risk management.
Requirements
  • Associate of Science in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) or Medical Technology (MT) -OR-
  • Board-registered by one of the national registries associated with laboratory practice (ASCP, AMT, HEW, etc.) -OR-
  • Bachelor of Science in Biology or Chemistry and current enrollment in an MLT or MT program and maintain enrollment until Associate of Science in MLT or MT is obtained. -OR-
  • Associate of Science or Bachelor of Science in Biology, Chemistry, or related science with 2 years of experience in a medical laboratory.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with patients, healthcare providers, and staff.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex laboratory data.
  • Developed computer skills and the ability to learn and proficiently perform computer applications related to laboratory operations and testing.
  • Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to provide timely and accurate results to healthcare providers and staff.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a high level of concentration and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
Working Conditions
  • Typical hospital clinical environment with frequent standing and walking.
  • Work may be subject to interruptions and periods of high stress.
  • Risk of occupational exposure to blood and other potentially infectious material, electrical and radiation hazards.
  • Works with protected health information.
  • Ability to work any shift, occasional extended hours, holidays, and/or weekends based on the needs of the department.
