Job Summary

This position is responsible for ensuring the sterility of all items processed through the steam and hydrogen peroxide sterilization processes. The successful candidate will ensure that all items, instruments, and equipment are cleaned and decontaminated in a manner that makes them safe for use and prevents cross-contamination. Additionally, they will maintain properly wrapped sterile linen and packs for areas, correctly assemble packs/trays for customers, and deliver and retrieve items in a timely manner. The ideal candidate will maintain high standards of work practice to provide high-quality care and perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • The successful candidate must obtain CRCST certification within two years of initial employment and maintain certification during employment.
Preferred Job Requirements
  • Previous hospital experience is preferred.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively and tactfully communicate with patients, families, and guests, as well as co-workers, managers, providers, and other hospital personnel.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to carry out duties in a professional manner, as well as the ability to work well under stress.
  • Developed computer skills and the ability to learn and proficiently perform patient care applications, e-charting, email, and other standards applications related to department operations and job function.
  • Strong customer service skills, with a special emphasis on patient-centered care.
  • Ability to promote compassion and a therapeutic environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple issues simultaneously and appropriately prioritize based on patient needs.
  • Basic working understanding of concepts of infection control principles to prevent the spread of infection to patients, self, and others.
  • Ability to react appropriately in any environment or situation.
  • General awareness and understanding of legal implications of patient care activities and self-performance while performing job duties.
  • Ability to be discreet and protect the integrity of any confidential matter or information encountered during the performance of job duties.
Working Conditions
  • The typical hospital clinical environment with frequent standing and walking.
  • Work may be subject to interruptions.
  • Risk of occupational exposure to blood and other potentially infectious, electrical, and radiation hazards.
  • Works with protected health information.
  • Ability to work any shift, occasional extended hours, holidays, and/or weekends based on the needs of the department.
Physical and Mental Activities, Tools, and Equipment
  • Lifting, pushing, pulling, walking, sitting, reaching, bending, kneeling, or stooping to perform duties in a safe manner.
  • Uses computer and other standard office equipment.
  • Use of patient care tools and equipment as they relate to the area of clinical specialty.
