The Assistant Director of Nursing will assist the Director of Nursing in planning, organizing, and directing the day-to-day functions of the Nursing Services Department. This role will ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times, in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations.

Nature and Scope:

The Assistant Director of Nursing will participate in developing, maintaining, and updating written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day operations of the Nursing Services Department. This will include ensuring that the Nursing Services Policy & Procedures Manual is current at all times and reflects the day-to-day nursing care procedures used by the facility.

Assisting in developing methods for coordinating nursing services with other resident services to ensure the continuity of the residents' total regimen of care is a key responsibility of this role. Additionally, the Assistant Director of Nursing will assure that nursing service personnel are following their respective job descriptions, as directed by the Director of Nursing. Performing administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, and evaluations, charting, etc., as necessary, is also a key aspect of this role.

The Assistant Director of Nursing will coordinate all CRTs and the Wellspring program, coordinate the My Innerview programs, coordinate and teach in-services to staff through a staff development program, provide and assist with orientation of nursing staff, coordinate and train feeding/dining program and CPR, and lead the QA committee. Daily rounds of the nursing services department will be made to ensure that all nursing service personnel are performing their work assignments in accordance with acceptable nursing standards. Findings will be reported to the Director of Nursing.
  • Registered Nurse licensed in South Carolina. Must have at least one year of management experience and two years of long-term care experience.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, and the general public.
  • Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long-term care.
  • Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel.
  • Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents and families.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
