About the Position

As a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor, you will deliver face-to-face rehabilitative programming services to participants in the Integrated Substance Use Disorder Treatment Program (ISUDT). Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering treatment programming services to participants and conducting group and/or individual sessions.
  • Effectively implementing scheduled program curriculum and leading face-to-face group and individual meetings.
  • Engaging participants daily, reinforcing group rules and expectations for participation and completion.
  • Working directly with participants to develop and implement treatment/action plans and educating them about supportive networks as they return to the community.
  • Reviewing treatment plans, evaluating and recording treatment progress, and documenting visible changes in appearance, behavior, and demeanor of program participants.
  • Maintaining accurate, timely, and confidential participant records and evaluating and documenting the progress of participants assigned to their groups.
  • Completing all delivery documentation requirements and summarizing participants' background, treatment plan, and recovery process outcomes.
  • Preparing accurate, concise, and informative reports, records, and plans that are consistent with Amity standards and complying with applicable clinical and administrative rules.
  • Liaising with transition/reentry staff, planning, and preparing transitional documents as directed by CDCR for continued community program activities.
  • Working collaboratively with CDCR, DRP, CCHCS, and institution staff, supporting and collaborating with co-faculty, including but not limited to Supervisors, Directors, and Regional Directors.
  • Participating in monthly, block, cross-training, curriculum training, technical assistance training, or other training as appropriate.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Less than one (1) year of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor.
  • Current AOD Certification with an organization recognized by the DHCS or Registration with BBS or AOD Certifying body, depending on education level.
  • Understanding of causes, symptoms, and effects of substance abuse and appreciation for the behavioral, psychological, physical, and social effects of drug abuse.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and communication skills.
  • Operational knowledge of MS Office Suite and ARMS (preferred).
  • Ability to maintain sensitivity and objectivity under pressures generated by association with substance abuse treatment participants.
  • Demonstrate ethical behavior in order to maintain professional standards and safeguard the participants.
  • Protect and maintain program participants' health, safety, welfare, and confidentiality of records and participant information.
