Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Certified Substance Abuse Counselor III to join our team. As a key member of our rehabilitation program, you will play a vital role in delivering face-to-face rehabilitative programming services to participants in our Integrated Substance Use Disorder Treatment Program (ISUDTP).

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver treatment programming services to participants and conduct group and/or individual sessions.
  • Effectively implement scheduled program curriculum and lead face-to-face group and individual meetings using motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and other therapeutic processes.
  • Engage participants daily, reinforce group rules and expectations, and work directly with participants to develop and implement treatment/action plans.
  • Review treatment plans, evaluate and record treatment progress, and maintain accurate, timely, and confidential participant records.
  • Prepare accurate, concise, and informative reports, records, and plans that are consistent with Amity standards and comply with applicable clinical and administrative rules.
  • Liaise with transition/reentry staff, plan and prepare transitional documents as directed by CDCR for continued community program activities.
  • Mentor Counselor I and II Level AOD Counselors/OMCP Mentors and work collaboratively with CDCR, DRP, CCHCS, and institution staff.
  • Participate in monthly, block, cross-training, curriculum training, technical assistance training, or other training as appropriate.
Requirements
  • A Master's Degree in a social service-related field and Licensed by, or registered with, the Board of Behavioral Sciences; or Registered with an AOD certifying organization recognized by DHCS; OR
  • A Bachelor's Degree in a social service-related field, AOD certified, and six (6) months of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor; OR
  • An Associate's Degree in a social service-related field, AOD certified, and one (1) year of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor; OR
  • AOD certified and more than two (2) years of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor.
  • An understanding of causes, symptoms, and effects of substance abuse; appreciation for the behavioral, psychological, physical, and social effects of drug abuse.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written communication, and typing skills.
  • Operational knowledge of MS Office Suite and ARMS (preferred).
  • Ability to maintain sensitivity and objectivity under pressures generated by association with substance abuse treatment participants.
  • Demonstrate ethical behavior in order to maintain professional standards and safeguard the participant.
  • Protect and maintain program participants' health, safety, welfare, and confidentiality of records and participant information.
