Role Overview:

The Solutions Engineer plays a critical role in designing, implementing, and testing solutions that ensure the functionality of GES products within customer environments. Responsibilities include preparing servers, installing and configuring software, loading data, performing maintenance, accommodating client-driven changes, minimizing downtime, and providing support to business users. Additionally, the engineer will design, implement, and test IoT connectivity solutions, utilizing tools such as Node-RED or Python.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with field contractors and customer engineers to offer remote installation and commissioning support for connecting field equipment to the MiraLink cloud platform or on-prem Aurora platform.
  • Be prepared to travel for hardware provisioning or programming at customer sites or Generac facilities.
  • Deliver application maintenance and support to proactively reduce service disruptions and enhance operational efficiency of applications, including software, server environments, databases, and integrations.
  • Coordinate and plan the timing of upgrades, patches, enhancements, and system migrations.
  • Engage in testing business continuity and disaster recovery plans for Windows server applications.
  • Stay informed about new features in GES products, configuration tools, and APIs.
  • Establish hardware environments to facilitate testing of implemented solutions.
  • Develop standard operating procedures for hardware and software setup/configuration.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Computer or Mechatronics).
  • Up to 3 years of experience with industrial electrical and control systems, particularly with diesel or natural gas generators, automatic transfer switches, and electrical power metering.
  • Up to 3 years of experience with Microsoft operating systems (Windows 7 to 10 and WS2008 to WS2019) in relation to IT application support and MS SQL.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • In-depth knowledge of industrial networking protocols such as Modbus, BACnet, IEC104, DNP3, TCP IP, and OpenADR.
  • Demonstrated experience in the installation and configuration of various distributed energy resources, including residential and industrial generators, photovoltaic systems, batteries, and EV chargers.
  • Professional experience in analyzing computer hardware and software.
  • Proficient scripting and automation skills in PowerShell, Python, or Bash for task automation and configuration.
  • Experience with diagramming and visualization tools like MS Visio or Lucidchart for creating IT infrastructure and electrical/control engineering diagrams.
  • Skilled in SQL for database management and querying.
  • Able to collaborate with various departments to ensure smooth execution of project plans.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with multiple operating systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Computer or Mechatronics Engineering.
  • Familiarity with AWS infrastructure.
  • Experience in providing training to customers or vendors.
  • Experience managing contractors.

Physical Requirements:

This role requires regular communication and manual dexterity. Employees may need to stand, walk, stoop, bend, or reach above shoulder height. Occasionally, lifting up to 25 pounds may be necessary. The position involves frequent computer-based work requiring periods of sitting and close vision, with the ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel may be required.
