Lead Virtualization Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Lead Virtualization Specialist to enhance our team. The successful candidate will oversee all facets of VMware virtualization, encompassing setup, deployment, and administration of servers within a virtualized framework. A solid background in Windows and network management is essential. This role necessitates a combination of engineering, operational duties, and direct technical support. The individual will work alongside diverse teams to assess organizational requirements and deliver comprehensive technical solutions, while also managing, operating, monitoring, auditing, and securing server virtualization resources.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation to support server infrastructure.
  • Install and configure vCenter Server along with ESXi cluster servers.
  • Establish and maintain VMware functionalities such as High Availability (HA), vMotion, and Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS).
  • Oversee the health of virtual machines across data centers and manage replication processes.
  • Support VMware management tools and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) solutions.
  • Troubleshoot VDI and server-related issues, including service interruptions.
  • Maintain thorough documentation and collaborate effectively with team members.
  • Identify and propose solutions for technical challenges.
  • Install, configure, and resolve issues with server systems.
  • Conduct security hardening and system patching.
  • Develop System Installation Plans and Administration Guides.
  • Execute tasks as assigned by Lead Engineers or Project Managers.

Required Qualifications:

  • Proven experience with vCenter Server, ESXi cluster servers, and VMware Horizon View.
  • Familiarity with multi-vendor server operating systems and enterprise Windows environments.
  • Experience in risk identification and mitigation strategies.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Background in a dynamic IT Service Management (ITSM) support setting.

Preferred Skills:

  • VMware certifications and familiarity with Microsoft Hyper-V.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL and desktop optimization.
  • Understanding of cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure.
  • Proficiency in scripting with PowerShell and infrastructure as code methodologies.
  • Knowledge of DISA STIG and CIS Benchmark standards.
