Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Teacher - Home/Hospital to join our team at Wake County Public Schools. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of students who require specialized instruction and support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct services and continuity of instruction to students who are unable to maintain regular school attendance due to medical, psychiatric impairments, or incarceration.
  • Assist students in completing the standard course of study curriculum and to complete Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals.
  • Consult with school staff at the students' assigned school to coordinate class assignments, provide evaluation of students' work and progress, and address any concerns or educational needs of the student.
  • Work with school staff and students' families to ensure a smooth transition for the student when entering back into the classroom setting.
  • Attend students' IEP meetings and serve as a collaborative team member. Attend and participate in monthly Home/Hospital team meetings.
  • Stay abreast of trends, research, and best practices for instruction by attending professional development events, utilizing educational resources, and communicating with other professionals within and outside the district.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university.
  • Five years of experience teaching special education or a related area.
  • Hold or be eligible for a North Carolina Professional Educators License in an Exceptional Children's teaching area (not including licenses in Academically or Intellectually Gifted).
  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license according to the State of NC requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certifications in two or more teaching areas.
Work Environment

This position operates in a variety of settings, including schools, mental health or medical hospitals, day treatment facilities, detention centers, students' homes, or public locations. The role requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing circumstances.
