Special Education Teacher

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team at Wake County Public Schools. As a Home/Hospital Teacher, you will provide direct services and continuity of instruction to students who are unable to maintain regular school attendance due to medical, psychiatric impairments, or incarceration.
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct services and continuity of instruction to students who are unable to maintain regular school attendance due to medical, psychiatric impairments, or incarceration.
- Assist students in completing the standard course of study curriculum and to complete Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals.
- Consult with school staff at the students' assigned school in order to coordinate class assignments, provide evaluation of students work and progress of assignments, address any concerns or educational needs of the student, and coordinate progress report grades and report card grades.
- Work with school staff and students' family to ensure a smooth transition for the student when entering back into the classroom setting.
- Attend students' IEP meetings and serve as a collaborative team member. Attend and participate in monthly Home/Hospital team meetings.
- Stay abreast of trends, research, and best practices for instruction by attending professional development events, utilizing social media, and communicating with other professionals within and outside the district.
- Perform other related duties, as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university.
- Five years of experience teaching special education or related area.
- Hold or be eligible for a North Carolina Professional Educators License in an Exceptional Children's teaching area (not including licenses in Academically or Intellectually Gifted).
- Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license according to the State of NC requirements.
- Certifications in two or more teaching areas.
This position operates in a school environment, mental health or medical hospital, day treatment facilities, detention center/jail, students' homes, or public locations. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, staff members of external funding agencies, and the community. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to 25 pounds of force. The work frequently involves driving automotive equipment.
