Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team at Wake County Public Schools. The successful candidate will provide direct instruction and support to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, according to their individual education plan (IEP).

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct instructional services to school-aged students (K-12) in the least restrictive environment.
  • Assess students who are deaf or hard of hearing and collaborate with school teams regarding Special Education decisions.
  • Enhance knowledge through completion of professional development training.
  • Collaborate and maintain effective working relationships with general education teachers, special education teachers, building level and district level administration, and other stakeholders.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Education of the Deaf from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience supporting teachers and Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in the general education setting, resource setting, and/or separate setting.
  • Hold or be qualified to hold a North Carolina Professional Educators License in Deaf Education (K-12).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Education of the Deaf.
  • Additional certification/experience in additional area(s) of Special Education.
Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. The position requires the exertion of up to ten pounds of force and frequent driving of automotive equipment.
