Job Summary

The Medical Assistant at Upstate University Hospital collaborates with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver quality patient care. This role performs clinical, laboratory, and clerical support activities, ensuring seamless patient flow and efficient operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare exam rooms for patients, maintaining a clean and organized environment.
  • Take vital signs, review medication lists, and obtain medication authorization.
  • Coordinate patient schedules, ensuring timely and effective care.
  • Initiate, prepare, and maintain accurate medical records.
  • Schedule future tests and appointments, retrieve results, and assist with referrals.
  • Perform various clerical duties, including answering phones and directing callers.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 1+ years of experience in a medical office setting and basic medical terminology.
  • Certification or diploma from an accredited institution or community college course in medical assisting.
Essential Skills
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and maintain attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and ability to interpret, explain, and document information.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to stand for long periods, bend, and stoop.
  • Effective communication and hearing skills.
  • Ability to view a monitor and enter data.
