POSITION SUMMARY
The Culinary Services Coordinator is accountable for overseeing the preparation and large-scale cooking of meals, including specialized dietary options, within a residential kitchen environment. This role also involves menu planning and procurement of food supplies for La Frontera Center Inc. and additional residential facilities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Formulates menus that cater to the dietary needs of residents, incorporating feedback from medical and supervisory personnel, with final approval from a registered dietitian.
2. Procures food and supplies in a manner that maximizes efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
3. Monitors and manages the budget and food expenditures.
4. Oversees the preparation of all meals for the program, including those for special events.
5. Estimates food needs and regulates portion sizes to minimize waste and effectively utilize leftovers.
6. Ensures compliance with safety and sanitation standards in the dietary department and equipment. Supervises food service personnel.
7. Provides guidance, training, and support to clients in both individual and group settings as part of a vocational training initiative aimed at achieving program objectives.
8. Maintains comprehensive client records, including evaluations, follow-ups, and closure activities, adhering to established protocols.
9. Develops and executes a direct instruction plan for clients on-site, focusing on specific skill development.
10. Assists in evaluating client assessments for job suitability, considering adaptive behaviors, family attitudes, transportation options, and the client's expressed willingness to work.
11. Acts as an advocate for clients and their families in interactions with external agencies and the community.
12. Conducts follow-ups on all workers placed in jobs.
13. Participates in case reviews and goal-setting for each client.
14. May assist with routine maintenance of kitchen equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS
A high school diploma or GED is required, along with two or more years of training and experience in food service management, preferably in a behavioral health residential context. Experience in commercial or institutional food service settings is essential. A Certified Food Handler's Certificate is advantageous.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation principles.
- Understanding of food management practices.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with staff and clients.
- Physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand or walk for extended periods.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Certified Food Handler's Certificate.
- Proof of physical examination.
- TB skin test.
- Fingerprint clearance.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
