Paramedic - Emergency Department Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Paramedic to join our Emergency Department team at UNC Health Care. As a Paramedic, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care to patients of all ages, from infants to geriatrics.
Key Responsibilities- Provide quality patient care to all Emergency Department patients, including neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
- Work collaboratively with the Registered Nurse, ED Provider, LPN, and ED Tech to ensure seamless patient care.
- Perform all selected procedures and tasks outlined and approved for paramedics by the North Carolina Office of EMS and the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
- Identify clinical priorities and initiate action to improve patient outcomes based on acuity of the patient.
- Maintain a safe, therapeutic, and healing environment through ensuring patient privacy and responsive, respectful, accepting, and professional behavior.
- Act as a patient advocate and support and promote Carolina Care.
- Communicate effectively to promote sharing of information.
- Transport patients via wheelchair or stretcher as needed throughout the facility.
- Initiate IV per order, administer fluids and medication.
- Perform basic data collection, prepare patient for exam, and communicate findings to primary and/or charge nurse.
- Document medication administration, ongoing assessments, interventions, patient rounding in the EMR in accordance with hospital policies and requirements.
- Completion of OEMS approved training & competency program for Paramedic.
- 1 Year experience in a pre-hospital environment as a Paramedic required.
- Current certification as Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic (EMT-P) with the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medicine.
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) within 6 months of hire date.
The Paramedic will work in a fast-paced Emergency Department environment, exposed to bloodborne pathogens requiring the use of protective equipment, and other infectious diseases. The ability to push a stretcher and other patient carrying devices with a patient is required.
