Job Description

Job Summary:

The Ohio Department of Health is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Regional Health Officer to join our team in Southwest Ohio. As a key member of our Public Health Excellence Center, you will play a critical role in supporting the Local Health Departments (LHDs) in the region.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary liaison to all LHDs in the assigned public health region, providing guidance and support on accreditation, mergers, consolidation, and shared services.
  • Independently advise and assist LHDs on emerging public health needs and concerns, including data collection, evaluation, and analysis.
  • Develop and interpret policies and procedures, as well as state and federal guidelines, to ensure compliance and effective implementation.
  • Represent the Ohio Department of Health at meetings and conferences, conveying decisions and directives to LHD partners.
  • Assume responsibility and authority in the absence of the Regional Administrator, ensuring continuity of operations and effective decision-making.
  • Conduct research and analysis to inform policy development and process improvement initiatives, providing recommendations to LHD administrators and ODH leadership.

Requirements:

  • 4 years of training or experience in business administration, management science, or public administration.
  • Or completion of an undergraduate core program in business administration, management science, or public administration, with 2 years of training or experience in supervisory, administrative, or managerial positions.
  • Or completion of an undergraduate core program in an academic field commensurate with the program area, with 2 years of training or experience in supervisory, administrative, or managerial positions, or staff positions involving planning, research, and policy/procedure development.
  • Or 1 year of experience as a Program Administrator 1.
  • Or equivalent of minimum class qualifications for employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a public health agency, including local, state, federal, tribal, or non-profit organizations.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and lead teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with LHD partners and ODH staff.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with a high level of flexibility and adaptability.
